Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Advocating for all badgers

One of WASBs 6 teams is the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team. Outside of the regularly scheduled weekly meetings, the DEI team has an additional meeting every 2 weeks. During team meetings DEI team members report to one of the other 5 teams (Development Block, Campus and Community Engagement, Professional connections, All Campus Party, and Marketing) to act as a DEI rep. The role of a DEI rep is to ensure that all events are being planned while taking WASBs DEI initiatives into account. They help co-chairs brainstorm how to make events more inclusive and how to reach a larger campus population.

DEI Discussions

Each week at our meetings the D&I team does a presentation for the rest of WASB. The presentation topics vary, but are always relevant to current events or campus climate. This is information the D&I team thinks is important for WASBs to be aware of, and topics suggested by other WASBs. These conversations take place in both large and small groups.

Internal Events

Internal events are a chance for WASBs to get together as an entire group to delve deeper into issues of privilege and power on our campus/ in our society within a safe space of peers. These events are planned by members of the D&I Team. Internal events are also a chance for WASBs to come together and form common memories.

“Where common memory is lacking, where people do no share in the same past, you can never have community. If you want to build community you have to start by creating a common memory”

Resources/Information

To encourage members of WASB to continuously learn more about D&I (because there is always more to learn), the D&I team makes several resources available to them. Within the WASB drive there are links to helpful/informational articles and videos that are relevant to planning events/ doing your part to foster D&I within your own life. There is also a living list of various D&I focused events going on around campus so WASBs can be well informed and attend if they desire.
