APPLYING FOR WASB

APPLICATION FAQS:

WHERE CAN I FIND THE APPLICATION?

We post our new member application at the end of every semester. In the fall, we normally open the application in November. In the spring, we typically open the application window in April. The link to the application will be posted to our website (if you are reading this — you’re already in the right place). Click on the rugby to the right to find the application!

WHEN SHOULD I SUBMIT THE APPLICATION?

As soon as possible! This semester the application closes on November 30th at 11:59PM — what are you waiting for?

CAN I APPLY TO WASB MORE THAN ONCE?

We understand that our application process is competitive, and we highly encourage applicants to try again if they are not initially brought on during a particular semester.

HOW COMPETITIVE IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

Each semester we typically receive between 150-180 applications. This number is condensed down to approximately 50 candidates who are then invited to interviews. The new member class size varies each semester according to the number of active WASBs, so there is a chance for second round interviews if applications are particularly competitive.

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION PROCESS STEPS?

Step 1: Answer the written application prompts.

Step 2: Record a short video of yourself after following the prompt.

Step 3: If invited for an interview, prepare to meet with the executive team.

Step 4: Knock our socks off.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY APPLICATION STAND OUT?

When assessing both the written responses and video submissions, we look for personality, creativity, and quality. We want to get a glimpse into your personality, see how you think, and get to know you. We are looking for individuals who think without constraints and have a unique perspective. In terms of quality, we can easily identify candidates who have done their research. To find out more about WASB’s events, check out the Facebook page or the teams section of the website.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT LIKE FOR WASB MEMBERS?

WASB requires a relatively high level of commitment. All members are required to attend meetings on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM. During each semester, members are expected to fulfill their role by helping plan an event. Additionally, members must attend all-member retreats and social-justice workshops.

DOES WASB PLAN HOMECOMING WEEK?

The Wisconsin Homecoming Committee plans and executes the UW Homecoming Week. Homecoming is another student group underneath the Wisconsin Alumni Association, making it WASB’s sister organization.
